Take a Turn About the Room

Happy Tuesday, all!  Did you have a nice Columbus Day?  I spent my Monday running a ton of apartment-related errands, and finally, I have some pictures to share!  Welcome, and let us take a turn about the room. (Caroline Bingley from Pride and Prejudice, anyone?) First, let’s start with the entrance.

The kitchen is to the left, bathroom and closets to the right, and the dining/living area straight ahead.  I’m totally in love with the kitchen—very modern.

(Go Yankees!)

And I’m really pleased with how the bathroom turned out.

Alrighty, onto the dining/living area.

This section needs some work.  I’m still waiting for a floor rug to arrive, and I also need to track down end tables and wall décor; it feels comfortable, but not yet homey, know what I mean?  Last but not least, my bedroom.

Like the dining/living area, I need to spruce up this room, too.  Although I did manage to put together a bag rack.

And my bike adds some character to the room.

Much like my triathlon swim, my apartment is still a work in progress–ha!  But working toward improvement, whether it’s in the open-water or in your home, makes the process more rewarding and worthwhile.  At least that’s what I tell myself when I’m making my third trip in two days to Bed Bath and Beyond.

Do you live in a house, apartment, or condo?  What’s your favorite room?  What are some of your favorite home goods stores?

  1. It’s all very smart! You’re very lucky to have a whole apartment to yourself when moving out of home (same for me, and I was so relieved not to endure shared houses, but mine was much more of a work in progress – I had no carpet, just a bare concrete floor, and no plaster on the walls for the first three months (my Dad was doing it up…).

  2. Holy crap your place is gorgeous! I want your job!

  3. I love your kitchen too! I just recently redecorated my place and repainted all the rooms. I love it. Isn’t it great to come home to a place you feel comfortable in and can really make your own? Congratulations on getting settled in!

  4. I love it! I’m especially jealous of the kitchen. Love the P & P reference, by the way 😉

  5. Your new apartment is absolutely beautiful ! I love it. Especially wonderful is your flooring. Carpet is horrible in apartments, so that’s great that you have hard flooring. Furniture looks perfect for the rooms and the bike in the bedroom is perfect !

We live in a house in the country. My favorite room is the sun room off the back. It’s a great place to just sit, think, sleep and/or read.
As far as shopping, my furniture stores range from big stores like Furniture Fair to Amish Village furniture in Ohio to a mom and pop store in town.
Home Goods…I like that store. I think they are owned by TJ Maxx.
Thanks for the great pictures. Enjoy your day of getting settled in.

  6. That looks awesome and I’m so jealous. I actually like carpet a lot and I wish my apartment had carpets. I buy a lot of things at TJ MAXX and Marshalls and then things I need to match bigger items at bigger stores.

  7. Your little slice of NYC is suuuuper cute!! We live in a house and as far as my favorite store….BBB! I can just wander up and down the aisles for days!

  8. It’s lovely! Well done you.

  9. Love the new apartment! It looks fabulous already! I live in an apartment and I LOVE Bed, Bath and Beyond. Seriously you can find anything there! And if I had an unlimited budget, you know I’d be shopping at Pottery Barn 🙂

  10. This looks like such a wonderful new home! I can tell you’re going to love it there 🙂

  11. Your apartment looks great! Mike and I live in a house, but it definitely still has that apartment feel. We’re probably going to move sometime soon and upgrade our stuff.

  12. hey, can you email me the name of your broker? I’ve been looking for a decent studio (also near chelsea piers!) and every broker that I have met is MISERABLE. Your apartment looks great and I’d love to work with the same guy/company who found you that place.
