Happy 2013!

Hi, friends!  Happy New Year!  Did you have fun celebrating last night?  We went to my aunt and uncle’s house for appetizers and soups.

So much food!  We hung out for a few hours before coming home to pop champagne with our immediate family.

Workout – Running

Did you do a resolution run (or workout) today?  I slept in and headed outside around 9 a.m. for snowy 45 minutes.  Nothing too exciting to report—expect some unplanned speedwork when a dog started chasing me!  Luckily, it was a small doggie that promptly returned to its owner when called.  Whew!

Since we were out of spinach this morning (the horror!), I added chopped red pepper to my egg-white sandwich.

Plus some Sriracha,.  My mom and I had some errands to run, so I also ate a sliced pear with PB.

Random, but delicious.

Our first two stops this afternoon included a visit to my grandparents’ house to pick up a sewing machine and a trip to Barnes and Noble so I could get a book for the train ride back to New York City.  Before I found a copy of Wild by Cheryl Strayed, I stumbled upon this display.

And if being ambushed by Downton Abbey spinoffs weren’t enough, the section next to it included a ton of triathlon books.  Well played, B&N.  I almost bought Race Weight:  How to Get Lean for Peak Performance by Matt Fitzgerald, but I didn’t want to carry another book home.  Don’t worry—I added it to my Amazon.com shopping cart.

Next up, we went to Wegmans, aka the happiest place on earth.

Although I’ve become a fan of Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, Wegmans will always be my favorite.

A trip to Wegmans meant my standard sushi and soup for lunch.

Citrus tofu roll and rotisserie chicken noodle soup for the win!

While at Wegmans, we also picked up a new toy for Zelda.  Besides some chew sticks and cookies from the Union Square Holiday Market, she didn’t get any real Christmas presents; Zelda tends to destroy new toys in minutes, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense to keep buying her stuff she rips apart.  However, this squirrel’s package said it would be “long lasting,” so we figured what the heck.

Zelda’s been playing with the squirrel for 30 minutes now, and it’s still intact!

What did you do for NYE?  How did you spend your first day of 2013?

  1. I love Zelda, she’s so beautiful. My dog also tears apart stuffed animals we give her in quick time so we love to challenge her with more intact victims.

Looks like you had a really great family day full of love.

We (friends and meself) did a 10k today. Went well, then we pigged out on burgers! Last night was a laid back get together with said friends.

Way to ring in the new year!

  2. I want to eat a pear and pb now! I’m so doing it with my white chocolate pb co! Happy new year!

  3. aww your dog is adorable, my friend has that kind of dog. I am jealous you are still at home enjoying some family time. I love getting new books when I am home, picked up Sharp Objects right before I left to bring back with me.

  4. Zelda is so beautiful! My dog is the same way; he usually just tears his toys up!

  5. My dog has that same toy! I have actually purchased her a few of those critters and they, for the most part, are still intact. She has chewed a hole in a few of them so they are starting to rip since she likes to play tug-a-war a lot. I love Matt Fritzgerald books!

    • We’re in shock–the toy has lasted five hours! It’s a miracle! I’m excited to get the Matt Fitzgerald book; I spent 15 minutes or so reading it in the store before my mom made us leave. 😉

  6. Given all the great pictures of family food over the past two weeks, how did you not gain a gazillion pounds? Your will power must definitely be stronger than mine 🙂

  7. Sounds like a great day! Bernie would have destroyed that toy in two seconds, he destroys his hard toys in a very short amount of time!

  8. LOVING the Downton Abbey display!

  9. At our new location in Indianapolis, I should be close to anything and everything. That will be so nice. Right now I’m 45 minutes from any of the stores you mention and 20 minutes from a basic box store. We have a mini full grocery 5 minutes away but they have zero speciality food and pricey on everything because they can. Our dog does the same thing with any stuffed animals….totally destuffs and then loves to rip them at the seams. Happy new year! Stay strong.

    • That’s great news for the relocation. Having easy access to healthy grocery stores, fitness centers, etc. makes it easier to follow a healthy lifestyle.

  10. I’m just going to stop reading your blog first thing in the morning. All your food shots look amazing and now I’m hangry. 🙁 Zelda is absolutely precious and I just want to snuggle her.

  11. Happy New Year! Pear and PB–I’ve never tried that but it sounds like a good combo.

  12. Sounds like a great day!! I spent my NYE partying a little too hard and therefore spent New Years Day nursing a hang over on the couch 🙁 Major fail…Oh well Better luck next year 🙂

  13. Aw, Zelda’s so cute! And B&N can be sneaky like that haha…I probably would’ve been sucked into one of the Downton Abbey books. I’m so excited for the season 3 premiere!

  14. Happy New Year! Looks like you are off to a great healthy start. I had a very lazy day yesterday but it was nice to have some down time, that’s for sure. Also, I’ve heard great things about Wegmans but I’ve never been. Your sushi looks delicious!

  15. Zelda is the cutest!! Is she a greyhound?

  16. mmmmmm that food looks delish! And your doggie is soooo cute 🙂 Happy New Year!

  18. Haha! Those Zelda photos are so wonderful. My parents dog is the same way – her only during toy is the kong; everything else gets destroyed!
