Hey, friends! Can you believe it’s Thursday? This week seems to be flying by—no complaints here! I think we’re in agreement about the “healthy” Girl Scout cookie news. If you try it, please let me know what you think! Anyway, after publishing yesterday’s post, I found out that registration for my hometown triathlon opened (which caught me off guard because the original date advertised was my birthday, Feb. 5!), and I didn’t waste any time: I officially signed up for the 13th Annual Cazenovia Triathlon!
More on that in a minute—today’s eats first!
Breakfast
I’m feeling stuffy and congested today, so I opted out of my planned morning yoga class. And plus, Andrew told us to take today completely off after yesterday’s butt-kicking indoor cycling workout. I slept in until 7:20 a.m.—glorious!—enjoyed two leisurely cups of coffee, and then made an egg-white breakfast sandwich.
I finished the spinach earlier this week—grocery shopping needs to happen today—so I added roasted mushrooms and red peppers instead. This combo packed more flavor, and I’ve become a huge fan of Udi’s Whole Grain Bread.
Lunch
I wanted a warm meal for lunch, so I heated up a spinach, turkey, and pepper jack cheese tortilla in the oven.
Plus some carrots on the side.
13th Annual Cazenovia Triathlon
Even though I’m locked into the Nautica South Beach and New York City Triathlons, my 2013 race calendar hasn’t been completely finalized. (I’ve talked to Andrew and nailed down potential events, and I plan to share my official schedule once I register for each event.) Unfortunately, Full Throttle Endurance will not take a team trip to Central New York in August, but I knew signing up for the Cazenovia Triathlon needed to happen. It takes place in my hometown, and it was also my first official swim-bike-run race; completing this sprint event got me totally hooked on the sport, so I have an emotional attachment to this race, too. Plus, triathloning is all about finding your limits and pushing past them, so I want to kick butt, take names, and see how much I can improve—aka blow last year’s time out of the water. It’s all about progress!

Speaking of progress, there’s been some already.
That’s right—no longer a swimming novice! (Since the 2012 race was my first true triathlon, I opted for the novice swim start.) Hey, remember that time I swam in the fast lane? (Too soon?)
Anyway, I registered last night, and this afternoon, I saw this post on the CNY Triathlon Club Facebook group page.
Does it surprise you that I was one of the first people to sign up? Type-A at its finest, ladies and gentlemen.
Is there a certain race or event that always makes it on your calendar?

I am so bad at making my omelettes flip, i am impressed with your skill. I always do the falmouth road race in august, family tradition. it was my fifth year last year but my aunt has run it for 18 years
I’m convinced my pan is ideal for omelet making. I struggle big time when I’m at home, so it has to be the dish. Wow, that’s awesome you have a road race that’s a family tradition. And kudos to your aunt!
Wooop! I got a tshirt for being one of the first 150 people to register for my half ironman.
So exciting! i still haven’t worked out all the details of my season, but will do soon!
Ahhh, I remember that–and Mr. T didn’t get one!
I love Udi’s bread! I eat it every day, it’s the only GF bread product I’ll have!
I was pleasantly surprised! I expected it to taste like cardboard, but it’s delicious!
Aw yay to checking the no box on novice! That egg sandwich looks so good. I think I could use some pointers on making my homemade meals look appetizing
I’m convinced it’s my pan! When I make breakfast sandwiches at home, they always look horrible, yet I prepare them the same way. So strange!
Type A, my kind of girl!
I’m so super OCD organized it’s crazy
It’s definitely a good thing when it comes to scheduling races!
Yay for checking that no box! The race that always ends up on my calendar? Actually there are 2. The Costa Mesa community run which I’ve ran every year since it started my sophomore year of high school (aka 7 years ago) and the Susan G Komen’s Race for the Cure!
Wow, that’s awesome! A seven-year run is impressive!
The one my BF introduced duathlons to me is one we have been at for 3 years! I always look forward to it cause of all the memories
I hope we can go this year
Awww, that’s so cute, Katie!
Looks like the calendar is starting to fill up
Slowly, but surely!
I would love to find an annual race to do, it’s such great motivation and it’s fun to be a race regular!
Agreed! And as a race regular, you can get to know the directors, usual participants, etc.
Sounds like a fun year ahead!!!
Lots of exciting races on the horizon–can’t wait!
Way to go Carrie! Kudos to you and your 2013 race calendar. It’s quite motivating!
Each year I always participate in the Nick Smiles on the Fine Arts Foundation 5K in my hometown. Nick was a classmate and friend of mine during high school. In college, cancer took his life. I go to his 5K each year to celebrate his life with the so many people that he touched not only with his spirit, but with his ginormous smile! He was an angel on earth.
Wow, that’s very admirable, Lindsay. I’ve done one local “memorial” race, and unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll make it home to run it this year.
What a great quote and so true – its what lies just beyond! Also great choice on not being in the back waves. I made that mistake in my first triathlon in Chicago and didn’t realize that there are several swimmers that literally can’t swim. Sometimes you just have to give yourself the credit due.
In hindsight, I would’ve been fine in the “normal” starts, but since I signed up in June, I wasn’t sure how much my swimming would improve for the race in August.
Your egg white sandwich looks great! I love mushrooms.
Your 2013 year is goin to be jam packed! Kudos on the strong swimming.
No events that are “musts every year” yet. I’m still too new to running for that haha! But I am so very type A, must list and date everything and plan before hand, but this year with races I’ve completely swapped to the left. I am scared to register too early because of my issue last year with my hip. Although I didn’t miss any races, I probably should have and I didn’t get to run them to full potential. I just registered for a race tonight that is in 2 weeks.
Woohoo for another type-A!
Come to think of it, I’ve never run a race more than one either! Technically, I did my hometown’s 4th of July run, but I did the 5-K my first year and the 10-miler my second.

Hmm, we don’t have a race for August yet
I could talk to Mike to see if he would want to do this! Then we could officially meet, even though I’m sure we were right next to each other at Skinnyman and didn’t even know it!
Jamie, you two should *so* do it! The swim is gorgeous, and although the bike is challenging, the scenery is beautiful. The run goes through part of town, so there are a ton of people watching (a la Skinnyman). And yes, I’m sure we saw each other at Skinnyman!
We are seriously considering it. I asked my friend, who isn’t really into tris but wants to do one this year, if she wants to do it. If she says yes, we’re in! I’ll let you know
I don’t have a specific event yet, but by the end of this year I assume I’ll have found a race that I love and have to repeat. LOVE that you’re not a novice swimmer anymore! That kind of advancement feels like such a huge accomplishment
Come to think of it, I have done any races twice either. The only race I repeated was my hometown’s 4th of July one, but I did the 5-K my first year and the 10-miler this past summer. I’m sure you’ll have some go-to/must-run races in no time!
