2013 Race Calendar Updates

Happy Hump Day, friends!  It’s an absolutely gorgeous day in New York City today—plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures.  Dare I say spring has finally arrived?  But this favorable weather doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy warm beverages, right?

Say hello to the city’s best hot chocolate.  I met Jen at The City Bakery this morning for a super-secret brainstorming meeting.  We have an exciting announcement to share tomorrow!

And in unrelated news, I officially added two more races to my calendar:  the Stamford KIC It Triathlon on June 30, another Olympic-distance event.

And the USAT Age Group National Championships in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Yikes!  Honestly, it still feels somewhat surreal, but signing up confirmed the facts:  It’s real, it’s happening, and I’m determined to show up on race day prepared to the best of my abilities.  I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, which was further confirmed when our official Race of Truth times were released.  Five groups were formed based on the results of the six-mile time trial in Central Park (group one being the fastest riders, group two the next fastest, etc.), and yours truly will be riding in group four.  You have to start somewhere, right?

When it’s warm outside, do you stick with cold beverages?  Or will you still order warm drinks?

  1. You are kicking those TRIs butts girl! How about Marine Corp Marathon with me? No? 😉

A marathon will happen–eventually. It’s a question of “when,” not “if,” so don’t worry. 😉

      • Ooooo! I wish it was this year… but “when” it happens – you should come run it in FL where it’s nice and flat and perfect weather (but only in the months of Oct-Feb though) 😉

  2. That hot chocolate was phenomenal. I need to go back and get it with a marshmallow (when I’m not resting from a race!).

SO excited for this summer and your race season! I see big things 🙂

    • carriestevens

The marshmallows are unbelievable. The last time I went with my BFF from college, she bought a marshmallow to take home for her BF. That’s how good they are–there’s sold individually.

  3. Seeing your hot chocolate on Instagram earlier made me totally crave it! I get oddball cravings like that too from time to time, like loving smoothies in the dead of winter. I just go with it! haha

    • carriestevens

Yep, I’ve definitely done smoothies during winter. It’s weird how coffee works–I always have hot coffee in the morning (even during the summer), but I’ll only drink iced during the warmer months. I’m not tough enough to handle cold coffee when it’s snowing, ha!

  4. Carrie, you make me want to race!

  5. I’m happy for you and can only hope that it goes well!

I drink hot coffee year round and drink smoothies year round..so that’s that. ha ha.

    • carriestevens

Yep, I’ve done the smoothies in the dead of winter. And when is hot chocolate ever a bad idea? 😉

  6. I drink hot coffee even in Summer, even after a sweaty workout!

    • carriestevens

I always do hot coffee first thing in the morning. Not sure if this is legit, but it seems to have more caffeine hot than when it’s iced? And I *need* that morning pick-me-up. 🙂

  7. Great race additions!

In the warm weather I tend to stick to cold beverages, but I will occasionally drink hot beverages too.

  8. It is 80 out and I am stuck at work in the freezing server room drinking hot chocolate right now. 🙂
