My First Big-Girl Job Promotion

Hiya, friends!  I feel like I haven’t talked to you in forever!  As you can tell from my absence, it’s been a busy week, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.  Here are some highlights:

1.  Hello, Saucony Kinvara 3’s!

These new sneakers carried me through two runs this week:  Wednesday’s run off the bike and today’s speedwork.  I’m tempted to #shoegeek out and share the details, but I’ll spare you. (Unless you come to the store for a shoe fit, then all bets are off!) I will say, though, it’s an extremely light and comfortable shoe, and I plan to use it for speedwork and racing only.  On a related note, does anyone know if Lock Laces come in orange?

2.  Speaking of racing, I officially signed up to volunteer for Ironman Lake Placid in July.

One of my teammates is tackling the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run, so another one of my teammates and I decided make the trip, volunteer at the race, and support him.  We also plan to turn it into a fitness-cation of sorts, meaning we’ll bring our wetsuits, bikes, and running shoes.  When in Rome Lake Placid …

3.  My aunt and uncle sent the sweetest card from our MuckFest MS Mud Run escapades.

In total, our team raised more than $8,300 for the National MS Society.  Way to go, Mighty Mucks!

4.  And now for the big news—I got my first big-girl job promotion!  I’m the new Community Outreach Coordinator for JackRabbit Union Square!

Since day one, this job has really clicked, and I absolutely love it:  doing shoe (and wetsuit!) fits, talking about training goals, and helping people discover healthy living.  I’m excited to take on more responsibility, and in this position, I’ll be in charge of brainstorming, planning, and organizing community events like yoga classes, informative workshops, and basically getting JackRabbit’s name out there.  There are a few ideas I’m kicking around already, and did I say I’m so excited?  Oh, and I get a company email address and business cards.  Woohoo!

Tell me about your first job that clicked.  Did you love it immediately, or did you grow to enjoy it?

  1. That is so great, Carrie! It really sounds like something that’s right up your alley!

This is going to sound so cheesy, but I love waking up in the morning, doing my swim-bike-run thing … and then helping others discover healthy living. I hope this job lets me make a positive impact on a bigger scale. Healthy living for all! 🙂

  2. Congrats on the promotion! But don’t be all sneaky with the IMLP volunteer slot – some of us know what volunteering in 2013 means #RacingIn2014.

    • carriestevens

LOL! That’s what my teammate plans on doing. This is a very dangerous set up for me–volunteering at an iconic race alongside someone who fully intends to sign up. It will be tempting, but I don’t think I’m ready to spend eight-plus hours in the saddle. 😉

  3. i love the color of your new kicks! and hugeeeee CONGRATS on the promo- that’s so awesome, and to be in a job you love and are passionate about. way to go!

    • carriestevens

Snazzy spring color, right? So fresh. 😉 And I’m so excited to make a difference on a larger scale. Woohoo for healthy living!

  4. wooo you so deserve this promotion. I am so happy for you. I am jealous you get to travel and volunteer at the race. I would love to travel to a race to just volunteer.

    • carriestevens

It’s so much fun, and it’s great to see a race from another perspective. PS – Every time I pull a Mizuno, I think of you. 🙂

  5. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is so well-deserved – that company is very smart! You’re going to such an amazing job. You’re personable, organized, efficient, dedicated, and focused. Your enthusiasm is so contagious! We’re all so proud of you!!

Awww, you’re so sweet, Alex! It’s a lot of responsibility, and I’m so amped to make an impact on a larger scale. Running and healthy living for everyone! 🙂

  6. I’m volunteering and (eh hem registering the following day) at Lake Placid! I’m making it a training vacation as well! My good friend is from Lake Placid and has done the race several times so it would be cool to get a group SBR going! I also run in Kinvara 3s!

    • carriestevens

That’s what my teammate plans to do! Don’t think I’m ready for 112 miles in the saddle quite yet, though. 😉 But I’ve already decided Lake Placid will be my first Ironman. We’ll definitely have to get a group together for some quality swimming, biking, and running. And I’m loving the Kinvara 3’s so far!

  7. Awesome! Congrats on the promo!

  8. Congrats on the promotion! That sounds like such a cool job, organizing and planning fun fitness-themed events. You’ll be great at it!

  9. CONGRATULATIONS!!! That’s such amazing news! I cannot wait to see all the amazing things you do in this position. Celebratory hot chocolate soon? 🙂

I just got a pair of the Saucony Kinvaras at FitBlog!! Cannot wait to try them out 😀

    • carriestevens

Absolutely! I will text you today at a reasonable hour. 🙂 Oh, and I cann’t wait to hear how FitBlog went!

  10. Congrats on the promotion, sounds like a great opportunity! I loved my Kinvara 3’s and this past go around ended up going with the Virrata’s and love them just as much. I think it would be a lot of fun (and pretty expensive) to work at JackRabbit though :-).

    • carriestevens

Oh yeah, it’s pretty dangerous being surrounded by all the gear. But luckily, I get a generous employee discount. 🙂

  11. Yay yay yay! Congrats on the promotion! Isn’t it amazing how life plays out? We think we know what we want to do and then end up finding something completely different and wonderful. I’m pumped that you’ll be at LP. We’ll totally have to meet up! What are you doing for volunteering? Volunteers totally make the day awesome! I loved doing it last year. Plus I handed Andy Potts an ice cup. Win! 🙂

    • carriestevens

You bet–maybe for a swim, bike, or run perhaps? I signed up for gear bag in, so I’ll be in transition. And OMG, so you basically touched Andy Potts. So jealous!

  12. Yay! Congrats–sounds like a great opportunity.

  13. Yay!!! Congratulations on the promotion! Very exciting 🙂 Sign language interpreting has clicked for me from the beginning, I’ve been at my job for 6 years now and I’ve been an interpreter for 7.5 years.

I love your new shoes, so pretty!

    • carriestevens

Thanks, Jamie! That’s awesome you knew what you wanted to do right away–and it clicked. 🙂

  14. Congratulations! I know I haven’t visited in a while so this is BIG NEWS a little late for me. I’m happy for you. I’m catching up with all your good stuff.

I plan to volunteer this season too, I can’t wait to see how yours goes.

Something else you’ll appreciate: I *may* be doing Timbermand 70.3 as part of a relay. Will keep you posted. 🙂
